The 1980s have so many movies worth watching (or re-watching)… and here are the best 80s movies to rewatch right now.
The 1980s was wicked – and the movies released then are still some of the best-loved of all time.
There are the absolute classics that have added lines to our vernacular, like “If it bleeds, we can kill it”, “ET phone home” and “No-one puts baby in the corner” to the cringiest 80’s silliness and everything in between.
So put on some fluoro lycra and sweatbands, plump up the perm, grab yourself a TAB and press play on the VCR because this decade was made to be binged.
Stand By Me
Straight out the gate with a cracker of a film.
This is a classic coming of age story from the pen of Stephen King, brought to life in a moving and relatable way.
It’s also some of the earliest work from stars like Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman and Kiefer Sutherland.
The Goonies
A lot of groups of boys did a lot of adventuring in the movies of this decade…this is a Spielberg style treasure hunt that’s worth a look.
Predator
The iconic, “if it bleeds, we can kill it” come from this Arnie action-adventure from 1987. Classic commandos Vs aliens. Classic Arnie.
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
Early in the 80s we fell in love with a shipwrecked alien that just wanted to talk to his family. “E.T. phone home?”
This is sweet, sad and so worth watching again and again.
Maybe Spielberg’s best work…
