Happy New Movie Year! Here’s some 2022 blockbuster movies we’re excited for.
It’s time to go back to the future, as the new movies of 2022 have a certain throwback feel to them. Not only do we see Tom Cruise reprise his roles in Mission Impossible 7 and Top Gun, but The Batman, Lightyear, and Gru the Rise of Minions, all take us back to their humble beginnings.
With the pandemic impacting on studio release times, there’s every chance some of these release dates will be pushed back further, so keep an eye on cinema releases.

The Batman
Are they running out of movie titles in The Batman factory?
Thankfully, they aren’t short of leading men to take on the prestigious batsuit – this time bestowed upon Robert Pattinson. From the moment the dark brooding score drops, you’re pulled into the moody gothic backdrop. This time we go back to Batman’s early years in Gotham City, as he first encounters the Riddler. As far as new movies 2022 go, we’re feeling it.

Top Gun: Maverick
We’ve been waiting for 36 years for this follow-up, which suffered even longer delays due to the pandemic – could 2022 finally be the year when Top Gun – Maverick touches down?

Elvis (untitled)
It has been 45 years since Elvis died, and his legend hasn’t faded in this time. Baz Luhrmann has the honour of bringing him back to the big screen this year, in a musical drama starring Tom Hanks and Austin Butler. We have no doubt this will be an explosion of colour and music in a celebration of the man they call King.

Minions, The Rise of Gru
Oh sweet twisted Minions, where have you been? Hatching a master plan of course.
Going back to the beginning, we return to the start of their journey, charting their rise to fame to become the world’s most revered supervillains. One of the few movies of 2022 we expect will unite adults and children alike.

Mission Impossible 7
Since the first Mission Impossible was launched in 1996, we’ve been treated to a new film on average every three and a half years.
In the real world, Ethan Hunt would be winding down right now, but this is Hollywood and Tom Cruise is ready to star in one of the top action movies 2022. Expect the usual action from the IMF agent and plenty of double-takes in this fast-paced film.

In the follow-up to the huge hit, Wakanda Forever is bringing all the superhero big guns in Black Panther 2.
The storyline is still under wraps, but we know that Lupita Nyong’o, Martin Freeman and Angela Bassett are amongst the returners. It would be remiss not to remember Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, and fans have already signed a petition to recast his role, rather than kill off the character. It may well be the most wanted Marvel movie 2022.
Release Date: 11th November
And finally, it was due for release this summer, but due to even more delays, Indiana Jones 5 will be hitting the screen in 2023, starring Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
