Gossip Girl Reboot Release date
The HBO Max original production will be released on Binge in Australia on July 8. This means we are less than a month away from learning all about the newest team of New York City’s young elite!
Our First Look
Gossip Girl was an extremely popular show which ran from 2007 to 2012 and was based on the bestselling novels by Ceccil Ziegsar.
The official trailer was released on June 10th and it shows us the new generation of wealthy prep school teenagers including a scene with a new girl being introduced to the rich kids, lots of glamorous catwalks and undeniable teenage drama sequences.
We already know that this spin-off of the hit 2000s show will have 10 episodes and that it was developed by a writer and executive producer of the original series, the showrunner Joshua Safran.
As for the cast?
It was this show that lifted up the career of many well-known actors such Blake Lively, Leighton Meester and Penn Badgley.
The new names we’ll meet in this reboot are: Jordan Alexander (Unbury the Biscuit), Emily Alyn Lind (Revenge), Eli Brown (Run Hid Fight), Eva Mock, Adam Chanler-Berat (Delivery Man), Thomas Doherty (Descendants 2), Zión Moreno (Control Z), Whitney Peak (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Tavi Gevinson (Scream Queens), and the newcomer Savannah Smith, making her debut with HBO’s show!
Will the original cast be coming back?
Gossip Girl had a remarkable cast and characters that are still iconic to this day. But there’s one more thing that is unforgettable about Gossip Girl: the voice behind the narrator.
That is precisely the only part of the former show that we are sure to get in the 2021 reboot: Kristen Bell. She’ll be back as the unique voice of the anonymous blogger that exposes all the major scandals and hot news of the high society, always ending with the her signature catch phrase- XOXO, GossiP Girl.
Diversity
Joshua Safran, who was a writer and executive producer in the original show has promised to give us a lot more diversity among the characters, and we love it!
He told Vulture that “this time around the leads are nonwhite. There’s a lot of queer content on this show. It is very much dealing with the way the world looks now, where wealth and privilege come from, and how you handle that.”
An official IG account
Now that we are in the age of social media celebrities and influencers we are sure that we’ll have a fertile ground for the show’s plot! And just to start getting us in the right mood for Gossip Girl, the official Instagram account has been posting sneak-peeks of the show and the famous “spotted” posts!
The upcoming show will not only retell the story of Gossip Girl, but also bring us the perspective of the major themes of the series within our current environment. Based on the information we got so far, the show sounds amazing and we are beyond excited to watch this reboot.
XOXO
