Monsters Inc is back in a Disney+ original series.
Mike and Sulley are characters that hold a special place in our hearts. That’s why we are extremely excited about Monsters at Work, which will premiere exclusively on Disney+ in July.
The upcoming series will be a television spinoff to the 2001 film Monsters, Inc., and we already have a date to reunite with our beloved characters: July 2nd! Initially Monsters at Work was set to premiere in 2020, but later was postponed to 2021. This date will be perfect to celebrate, since it will coincide with the 20th anniversary of Monsters, Inc.!
Watch the Trailer:
Do you remember?
The film from 2001, that is set before the series’ plot, tells us a story about two monsters who are part of the top scare team at Monsters, Inc.: Sulley (James P. Sullivan) and his buddy Mike.
They live in Monstropolis, a city inhabited by monsters of all shapes and sizes and powered through the screams of children. After a little girl named Boo accidentally gets inside the scream-processing factory Mike and Sulley’s lives are changed forever, making them question everything they thought they knew about children and monsters.

“It’s laughter we’re after!”
The upcoming series will take place after the original movie’s plot.
In this new period the city of Monstropolis isn’t powered by screams anymore, the monsters now use children’s laughs to fuel the city! Which are way more powerful than the formerly used screams.
We’ve had a little taste of the fun with a teaser trailer!
In the teaser that was released on May 18 we can see that the two friends Sulley and Mike are in charge of the company. The iconic duo shows us that they’re no longer in the scream business, now they’re in the laughing business, and we love it!
Some new familiar faces
Besides having the well-known characters coming back to the series we’ll also be introduced to new characters! In the sneak peek, new faces caught the attention of the fans, such as the friendly horned purple monster Tylor Tuskmon, voiced by Ben Feldman (NBC Superstore).
He stands out as the recently graduated monster who dreams of working alongside Mike and Sulley. Sadly, since the company is no longer hiring scarers, this lovely new character will be assigned to the Monster Inc. Facilities Teams, working in maintenance. Inside this department of the company is where we’ll also discover new fun characters, like Lucas Neff (Raising Hope), Alanna Ubach (Coco), Mindy Kaling (Inside Out) and Henry Winkler (Barry).
Familiar voices!
The uniqueness of an animated character comes from a combination of elements, and the voice is surely one of them!
For the franchise lovers’ happiness Billy Crystal and John Goodman, from the original cast, will come back to voice James P. Sullivan (“Sulley”) and Mike Wazowski.
Will we see Boo?
Even though we can’t see Boo in the teaser trailer we are definitely hoping for an emotional reunion between our lovely girl and fave big monster Sulley. Who wouldn’t be in tears after waiting all these years?
Less than a month away, Monsters at Work already has our hearts filled with excitement and we can’t wait to be reunited with our favorite monsters!
