The Duffer Brothers are planning a spinoff very different to their original hit series
While fans are still recovering from the final episode of Stranger Things season 4, Matt and Ross Duffer have been busy at work plotting a Stranger Things spinoff – but don’t expect it to be anything like the show.
“It’s not following… I’ve read these rumours that there’s gonna be an Eleven spinoff, that there’s gonna be a Steve and Dustin spinoff or that it’s another number,” the Duffer Brothers recently said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “That’s not interesting to me because we’ve done all that. We’ve spent I don’t know how many hours exploring all of that. So it’s very different.”
It’s pretty crystal clear that the spinoff will be ‘1000% different’ from the original series, and the swirling rumours of different characters getting their own show are nothing more than that.
So, what can we expect?
There’s no word on a title yet, but we do know that any original cast members won’t be featured. What we know is very little, but they have expressed that it will have the same ‘storytelling sensibility’ as their more established show and be a surprising concept to Netflix and fans.
The Duffer brothers will undoubtedly be involved in some way, however the extent of that is a bit up in the air.
“Ultimately the hope is to pass the baton to somebody else,” Ross told Collider. “Because by the time we’re done with this, it’s going to have been… God, it’s going to be almost have been 10 years. It’s going to be more or less my entire 30s.”
Given the fourth season of Stranger things broke the streamer’s viewing records for English-language TV, we’re keen to see if the fab duo is able to pull it off a second time with an all new project. Will the success they’ve currently received flow into this new spinoff series? Only time will tell.
While you wait, you can watch all the Stranger Things episodes on Netflix.
