Exclusively available on Paramount+, the highly anticipated prequel to Yellowstone, ‘1923’, has hit screens with a bang. Yellowstone and 1883 creator, director, writer, and producer Taylor Sheridan has returned to head up the production of 1923.
The series gained a lot of interest and hype the moment it was announced that Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren were taking on the lead roles. While it’s only three episodes in, audiences have been drawn in by the show’s dark, sinister, violent, and unsettling nature.
Cast
Helen Mirren plays family matriarch Cara Dutton and wife of patriarch Jacob Dutton, played by Harrison Ford. The series also stars Brandon Sklenar (Vice), Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones), Darren Mann, Brian Geraghty, Michelle Randolph, and Timothy Dalton.
Plot
Set in 1923, the show follows a generation of the Dutton family through various hardships of Western expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression in Montana that started 10 years earlier.
The show is based on the lives and adversities of Jacob Dutton and his wife, Cara. Follow the Dutton family as they fight to hold onto their ranch at all costs. Expect lots of family drama and not just an origin story of Yellowstone.
A subplot focuses on a young and rebellious Native American woman, Teonna Rainwater (played by Aminah Nieves), who is taken from her family and placed in a Catholic boarding school, forced to abandon her language and way of life.
How To Watch
1923 first aired on December 19, 2022, with episodes released every Monday. There will be a break from January 16th to 30th, with episode five returning on February 6th.
