Cast, plot, release date and everything else to know while waiting for Guardians Of The Galaxy 3.
Marvel fans rejoice, Guardians of The Galaxy 3 is finally underway and ready for a May 2023 release.
Yes it’s still two years away, but we’ve waited this long already- the finish line is in sight.
Your favourite bunch of intergalactic criminals are making their return and bringing you even more action and laughs to serve as an epic conclusion to the journey we started in 2014.
Marvel confirmed the return (finally) along with a date and a few other movies in this clip below:
Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 plot
First, to refresh your memory a little before diving into the new plot lets rehash the first two movies.
Guardians of The Galaxy begins as a group of intergalactic criminals brought together by the brazen space explorer Quill (Chris Pratt) that includes a Racoon, a humanoid tree, an assassin named Gamora and Drax the Destroyer; safe to say it’s an odd bunch. The ragtag team is formed after he steals an orb from super villain Ronan and is forced into an uneasy truce that leads to the discovery of a huge cosmic threat.
Moving into the second movie Quill and his team are hired by The Sovereign, a powerful alien race needing precious objects protected. Rocket (the racoon) decides foolishly to steal items they were sent to guard and then sparks the Sovereign’s angry search for vengeance and along with all of this the mystery of Quill’s parentage is revealed. Yes, there is a lot to unpack.
Now we’re here, the third instalment.
Director James Gunn has described the film as an epic conclusion to the story he began all the way back in 2014 and also denied some rumours that it would be set before Infinity War. We don’t have a lot to go off yet but from a bit of research it seems it will be based 4 years after Guardians 2 and after Infinity War and its sequel.
Following on from Endgame we can guess that the new movie will revolve around searching for Gamora after she disappeared.
Gunn has also hinted at a big involvement and focus on our fave furry friend Rocket and promised ‘endings and new beginnings’ for Guardians 3.
Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 cast
You’ll be happy to know that you can expect all the original crew to be featuring in the new movie.
Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Groot (Vin Diesel), Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Nebula (Karen Gillan) are all back in one piece. Gamora (Zoe Saldana) is also alive however she’s now 2014 Gamora from the past, so it will be interesting to see how this will play out as Saldana hinted at wanting to explore another badder side of Gamora. We can probably also expect to see some Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in amongst the team after he was picked up by the Guardians.
Apparently Sean Gunn will be making a re-appearance as Kraglin and Elizabeth Debicki is wanted to come back as the high priestess of The Sovereign, Ayesha- who rumour says has a significant role to play.
You’ll also have to get the most out of your Dave Bautista as Drax viewing because the star has confirmed this will be his last hoorah playing the beloved character.
This is only speculation but the rumour mill is suggesting we may also be seeing three familiar faces from the Guardians comic series make a debut- Moondragon, High Evolutionary and Lady Lylla? It’s certainly a possibility.
Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 release date
Finally confirmed in a video after a long wait Marvel has told us to be ready for the threequel in May 2023, so the countdown is on.
Gunn has confirmed on Twitter filming will begin this year after a wave of setbacks from his brief firing and re-hiring, directing of Suicide Squad and of course the global pandemic.
The timeline we’ve been provided with now should put the movie well on track for it’s 2023 release, because we don’t think we can possibly hold out any longer.
For now, you can keep up to date with the news straight from Gunn on Twitter or rewatch the first two movies on Disney+ while we patiently (more likely impatiently) wait it out.
