He-Man Masters of the Universe Netflix Series premieres 23rd of July.
Calling all children of the 80s, your favourite muscle-bound superhero with a sword and bob haircut is back!
By the power of Grayskull we are a little bit excited about He-Man coming to Netflix.
That’s right, He-Man and The Masters of the Universe Netflix series is ready to drop in Australia next month, and we couldn’t be more excited. All the old favourites from Skeletor to Orko and Teela are back, like a high-school reunion – bullies, crushes and all.
The good news is that this new and highly-anticipated animated series does not disappoint. In fact, it manages to retain its original allure with a touch of modern gloss.
So, in anticipation of the looming Netflix He-man release date, here’s everything you need to know:
It gets a global unveiling
Unusually, the Netflix He-man release date is scheduled for a joint global release – earmark 23rd of July 2021 in your calendar now.
Die-hard fans will be pleased to know that producer Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) is faithful to the original series, in look and storylines, while giving it a much-needed makeover for a new era.
Brought back to life with love, it’s clear that the new adventures of He-man are delivered with fans in mind. In a statement, producer Smith said: “So many of us were touched by these stories and these characters early in our lives and were so happy to come back to Eternia. But even if you’ve never watched a single episode of the show or don’t know this universe at all, you can jump right into the story.”
Exploring destiny in a ‘fresh way’, the action-packed series takes on a number of themes, from growth to discovery, magic to power, and love to loss.
A stellar cast and crew
What we know so far is that there’s an impressive line-up of talent falling over themselves to appear in the series. This includes Chris Wood as He-Man, Mark Hamill as Skeletor, and Sarah Michelle-Gellar as Teela. It doesn’t end there- Alicia Silverstone makes an appearance as Queen Marlena, Lena Headey features as Evil-Lyn, Liam Cunningham takes on the role as Man-At-Arms, and there’s many more big names you’ll enjoy listening out for as you binge your way through.
But, it wouldn’t be He-man without a rousing soundtrack as the characters scream “To the power of grey skull” proud and loud. Smith reveals in an interview that he’s teamed up with the legendary Bear McCreary to compose the score.
What’s more, the series is being produced by Mattel Television with Adam Bonnett, Rob David and Christopher Keenan bringing their superhero credentials to the production.
Snazzy graphics
If you’ve ever found yourself taking a journey down memory lane on YouTube you might find yourself reminiscing about your childhood, only disappointed to discover the low-grade graphics and sketchy sound to boot. Well, that’s 1984 for you.

In good news, the new Masters of the Universe series is CG animated, giving it a fresh, bright and colourful look.
New for He-Man Netflix 2021
For those who remember the original series (and have a great memory), the 2021 version picks up where the last one ended….yes, in 1985. Without giving too much away, the first episode focuses on He-Man and his arch-enemy Skeletor, and a life-changing battle and bid to save Eternia and the universe. You know, nothing major or anything…
Designed for kidults
Tapping into the kidult market (adults with child-like tastes), He-man is not a geek-fest, but a nostalgic treat, reimagined with a 2021 stamp of approval. Its core audience is not children, but instead children of the 80s – essentially, those old enough to remember the original.
In the End.
Finally, it’s good to know that some things don’t change. Because as ever, the big question is, who will become Master of the Universe….. you’ll have to tune in on the 23rd to find out.
