A Joker sequel has been confirmed by director Todd Phillips
Raking in plenty of praise and admiration from movie fans, DC fans, and critics, the award-winning film Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix has been confirmed to get another sequel titled Joker: Folie a Deux.
Taking to Instagram, director Todd Phillips posted a teasing image of the script front cover alongside one of Joaquin Phoenix reading over it.
Many have put the success of the first movie down to Joaquin’s incredible portrayal of Arthur Fleck, which was nothing short of breathtaking, gripping, and absolutely standout. You really can’t watch the movie without feeling the utmost appreciation for such stellar acting.
It’s exciting to see that he will be reprising his breakthrough role, with the post also confirming that the script has been co-written by Scott Phillips.
What can we expect?
The title ‘Folie a Deux’ could hold clues as to what the second film has in store.
The first Joker was a refreshing take on one of DC’s most iconic villains, providing an origin story for Arthur Fleck – a failed clown and aspiring stand-up comedian who begins his descent into insanity and inspires a violent counter-cultural uprising.
Folie a Deux is defined as ‘an identical or similar mental disorder affecting two or more individuals, usually the members of a close family.’ This definition opens up a whole lot of theories regarding the plot of the sequel; will there be some family ties making an appearance? Will it dive more into the idea that the Joker is the son of Thomas Wayne? Will Batman make an appearance?
While the script appears to be done and dusted, there’s no word on when the film will begin production or when we might see its release.
For now, watch this space.
