Here’s everything you need to know about the new Netflix thriller, Run Rabbit Run, which is all set to chill your bones this June.
Helmed by Daina Reid, known for directing episodes of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale,’ and written by Hannah Kent in her screenwriting debut, Run Rabbit Run is a psychological thriller that is sure to leave audiences on the edge of their seats. Set against the backdrop of Australia’s vast and empty landscapes, the film dives into the unsettling question – what if the dead became a part of us?
Sarah Snook, who won hearts with her portrayal of Shiv Roy in HBO’s ‘Succession,’ steps into a completely different role for this thriller. Snook plays Sarah, a fertility doctor with practical beliefs about life and death. However, her beliefs are put to the test when her young daughter, Mia, starts displaying disturbing behaviour, showing a peculiar obsession with Sarah’s dead sister.
The Cast
Joining Snook on screen is a stellar cast including Lily La Torre as Mia, Damon Herriman as Peter, Emmy-winner Greta Scacchi as Joan, Neil Melville as Albert, Julia Davis as Gail, and Trevor Jamieson. In a riveting departure from the boardroom showdowns of ‘Succession,’ Snook’s new character must navigate her daughter’s troubling behavior, which includes an unhealthy obsession with her deceased aunt and a particular fondness for rabbits.
Run Rabbit Run is an exploration of the mother-daughter relationship, as Sarah grapples with her daughter’s curious, obsessive, and difficult nature, all while dealing with her dark family past. The film also carries some supernatural elements, adding an additional layer of thrill to the storyline.
The film is set to be released exclusively on Netflix on June 28, 2023, following its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2023. Although the film received mixed reviews at Sundance, the creators are hopeful that the views will change after its worldwide streaming release.
The team behind the camera is as impressive as the one in front of it. Alongside Reid and Snook, the executive producers include Nate Bolotin, Maxime Cottray, Nick Spicer, and Aram Tertzakian of XYZ Films, Deanne Weir, Olivia Humphrey, Jack Christian, D.J. McPherson, Jake Carter, and Katie Anderson. The film’s score is composed by Mark Bradshaw and Marcus Whale, while Bonnie Elliott, known for her work on Netflix’s ‘Stateless’ and ‘Shining Girls,’ serves as the cinematographer.
