Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8 starts August 13 in Australia.
No one likes long goodbyes, so we’re just going to get straight to it (tissues at the ready), Brooklyn Nine-Nine is coming to an end after eight wholesome series.
The highly-acclaimed ‘comedy cop show’, set in a New York Police Department, centres around protagonist Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) – an immature but talented Detective. Its entertaining storylines and laugh-out-loud moments have earned itself a loyal fanbase.
But alas, all good things must come to an end. And in a typically on-brand statement Executive Producer, Dan Goor, said:
“Ending the show was a difficult decision, but ultimately, we felt it was the best way to honour the characters, the story and our viewers. I know some people will be disappointed it’s ending so soon, but honestly, I’m grateful it lasted this long. Title of my sex tape.”

When is Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8 airing?
Officials announced that Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8 will be the last in the series. This comes just two years after Fox swooped in to save it, despite it maintaining a cool 2-3 million viewers. Nonetheless, it just didn’t stack up in the competitive ratings war.
Mark your calendars, after 153 episodes, the final series of Brooklyn Nine-Nine will premiere on 12th of August 2021, according to the official Twitter page and will premiere on 13th of August 2021 in Australia. The final season will consist of just ten short but sweet episodes – the fewest since it first premiered back in September 2013.
If you’re lucky enough to live on the other side of the world, the finale will be shown on NBC and Peacock TV this winter, whilst for us, SBS will be your go-to for the last season of Brookyln Nine-Nine.

Series 8 – The cast
Once again all our favourite Brooklyn Nine-Nine characters are back: Ray, Melissa, Jake, Charles, Amy, Rose and Terry. Not forgetting some of our favourite veteran officers – Scully and Hitchcock.
Over the years the series has attracted cameo appearances from some of our favourite celebs. Who could forget the Brooklyn Nine-Nine – Pete Davidson episode ‘The Slump’ (season 3), or Eva Longoria as a defence attorney in season 2, and Patton Oswalt in the first season.
Sadly, there is no indication that there will be any guest appearances in Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8, but we live in hope.
The plot thickens
As the series winds down, the squad attempt to balance out their personal lives with their work, in what turns out to be a challenging year.
Fans will be delighted (but not surprised) to know that the exploits of Detective Peralta – one of the most loved Brooklyn Nine-Nine characters, continue in the final series. Expect plenty of banter and standoffs with the ever-professional Captain Raymond Holt and the jolly cast of NYPD’s 99th Precinct.
This is all set to a backdrop of recent months, where the world as we know it has changed. Fittingly, the global pandemic is acknowledged, with New York’s first responders playing their vital role.
That’s not all, season eight will also confront other high-profile issues, such as the Black Lives Matter movement. It’s an issue that the producers felt had to be portrayed realistically and not “hide itself in a fantasy.”
With its unique comedic approach tackling some deep and serious matters, this could be quite the watershed moment for the very last instalment of a much-loved series.
